MODULE 16 A: CHRIST’S REIGN, THE CHURCH’S ROLE, AND THE FINAL SUBJUGATION OF ALL THINGS

Lesson Purpose

To clarify the biblical relationship between:

  • Christ’s reign
  • The Church’s authority
  • The role of the Holy Spirit
  • The final subjugation of all rule, authority, and power

This lesson ensures that Kingdom teaching remains Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, and biblically balanced.

🎯 LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to:

  1. Correctly interpret 1 Corinthians 15:24–28
  2. Distinguish between Christ’s role and the Church’s role
  3. Understand what the Church does and does not accomplish in history
  4. Avoid common Kingdom-teaching errors (dominionism and passivity)
  5. Walk confidently in delegated authority without overreach

📖 CORE SCRIPTURE (FOUNDATIONAL TEXT)

1 Corinthians 15:24–28 (KJV)
“Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power.
For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet
And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all.”

🧠 SECTION 1 — WHO IS REIGNING?

Key Truth

Jesus Christ is the One who reigns.

Scripture consistently affirms that Christ is currently reigning at the right hand of the Father. His reign began with His resurrection and exaltation and continues until all enemies are subdued.

  • Christ reigns now
  • Christ reigns progressively
  • Christ reigns until consummation

The text does not say the Church reigns independently, nor that the Church completes this task apart from Christ.

The reign belongs to Christ.
The participation belongs to the Church.

🧠 SECTION 2 — WHAT DOES “HE MUST REIGN UNTIL…” MEAN?

The phrase “He must reign, till…” indicates a process, not an instant event.

This means:

  • The Kingdom is active now
  • Opposition still exists
  • Subjugation is ongoing
  • Completion occurs at “the end”

The final enemy—death—is destroyed by Christ, not by the Church.

🧠 SECTION 3 — WHERE DOES THE CHURCH FIT?

The Church’s Role (Biblical Balance)

The Church:

  • Proclaims the Kingdom
  • Disciples nations
  • Resists evil
  • Walks in delegated authority
  • Enforces Christ’s victory spiritually
  • Represents Heaven on earth

The Church does not:

  • Subdue all cosmic powers
  • Eliminate all governments
  • Execute final judgment
  • Establish the eternal Kingdom

The Church enforces what Christ has won.
Christ completes what the Church witnesses.

🧠 SECTION 4 — THE ROLE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Holy Spirit:

  • Does not replace Christ’s reign
  • Does not establish a separate authority
  • Does not empower the Church to bypass Christ

Instead, the Spirit:

  • Enforces Christ’s reign
  • Guides Kingdom citizens
  • Empowers obedience
  • Maintains alignment with Heaven

The Spirit administers the Kingdom on behalf of Christ, not instead of Him.

⚠️ SECTION 5 — TWO ERRORS THIS LESSON CORRECTS

❌ Error 1: Dominionism / Overreach

Teaching that the Church will:

  • Conquer the world
  • Subdue all powers
  • Establish the final Kingdom

This places the Church where only Christ belongs.

❌ Error 2: Passivity / Powerlessness

Teaching that the Church has:

  • No authority
  • No responsibility
  • No present Kingdom role

This contradicts the Great Commission.

✅ Biblical Balance

Christ reigns.
The Church participates.
The Spirit empowers.
The Father receives the Kingdom at the end.

📝 STUDENT REFLECTION QUESTIONS

  1. Who is the primary subject in 1 Corinthians 15:24–28?
  2. What does the Church enforce, and what does Christ complete?
  3. Why is it dangerous to confuse participation with ownership?
  4. How does this understanding protect Kingdom teaching?
  5. How does this balance increase confidence without pride?

🙏 ACTIVATION & PRAYER

Declaration (Read Aloud):

Lord Jesus, You alone are King.
I receive delegated authority, not independent rule.
I submit to Your reign, cooperate with Your Spirit,
and faithfully represent Your Kingdom until You return.
Amen.

🧾 DOCTRINAL SUMMARY

Jesus Christ alone subdues all rule, authority, and power and delivers the Kingdom to the Father.
The Church, empowered by the Holy Spirit, participates in Christ’s reign by proclamation, discipleship, obedience, and spiritual enforcement—until the King returns.
