🎯 PURPOSE OF THIS LESSON
The purpose of this lesson is to establish biblical assurance, so that the believer understands that:
- Salvation is secure because of Christ, not human consistency
- Assurance is based on God’s Word, not emotions
- Peace with God flows from justification
- Doubt and fear hinder growth, confidence, and obedience
- God desires His children to know they are saved
By the end of this lesson, the student should be able to stand confidently in salvation without fear, insecurity, or condemnation.
📖 CORE SCRIPTURES (FOUNDATIONAL)
Romans 5:1 (KJV)
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
John 5:24 (KJV)
“He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation…”
1 John 5:13 (KJV)
“These things have I written unto you that believe… that ye may know that ye have eternal life.”
🧠 PART 1 — WHAT IS ASSURANCE OF SALVATION?
Assurance of salvation is:
- Confidence in one’s standing with God
- Certainty that one belongs to Christ
- Freedom from fear of rejection by God
Assurance is not:
- Pride
- Presumption
- Arrogance
Assurance is faith in God’s promise.
📌 God wants believers to know — not guess — their salvation.
⚖️ PART 2 — ASSURANCE IS BASED ON GOD’S WORD, NOT FEELINGS
Feelings change.
God’s Word does not.
John 10:28–29 (KJV)
“And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.”
Assurance rests on:
- What God promised
- What Christ accomplished
- What Scripture declares
📌 Feelings follow truth — not the other way around.
✝️ PART 3 — PEACE WITH GOD THROUGH JUSTIFICATION
Peace with God is objective, not emotional.
Romans 5:1 (KJV)
“We have peace with God…”
This peace means:
- The hostility caused by sin is removed
- The judgment issue is settled
- The believer is reconciled to God
📌 Peace with God comes before peace of mind.
🧾 PART 4 — ETERNAL LIFE IS A PRESENT POSSESSION
John 3:36 (KJV)
“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life…”
Eternal life:
- Is received at salvation
- Begins now, not at death
- Is God’s life imparted to the believer
📌 Eternal life is not probationary — it is a gift.
🔐 PART 5 — THE SECURITY OF THE BELIEVER
Security is found in Christ, not in human perfection.
Romans 8:1 (KJV)
“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus…”
Salvation is secure because:
- Christ paid the full price
- God’s verdict is final
- The believer is in Christ
📌 God does not save you one day and reject you the next.
⚠️ PART 6 — WHAT ASSURANCE DOES NOT MEAN
Assurance does not mean:
- Sin no longer matters
- Growth is optional
- Discipline is unnecessary
Hebrews 12:6 (KJV)
“For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth…”
Assurance produces:
- Gratitude
- Obedience
- Growth
- Love for God
🧭 PART 7 — WHY ASSURANCE IS ESSENTIAL FOR GROWTH
Without assurance:
- Believers live in fear
- Obedience becomes legalistic
- Prayer becomes timid
- Identity becomes unstable
With assurance:
- Believers grow confidently
- Obedience flows from love
- Prayer becomes bold
- Identity is secure
🛠️ PRACTICAL APPLICATION
Because you are assured:
- You approach God confidently
- You resist condemnation
- You grow patiently
- You rest in Christ’s finished work
📌 Assurance leads to peaceful obedience, not careless living.
🤔 REFLECTION QUESTIONS
- Why must assurance be based on Scripture rather than emotions?
- How does peace with God affect daily Christian living?
- What dangers arise when believers lack assurance?
