The Father Revealed Through the Son
(How Jesus Makes the Invisible God Known)
One of the most profound truths revealed in the New Testament is that the Father is revealed through the Son. Humanity could not fully know God by observation, philosophy, or religion alone. God made Himself known personally and clearly through Jesus Christ.
Jesus did not simply teach about God—He revealed the Father’s nature, character, and heart.
1. God Was Invisible and Unknown to Humanity
Before Christ came, people knew God through:
- creation
- the Law
- the prophets
- divine acts in history
However, these revelations were partial and indirect.
📖 John 1:18 (KJV)
“No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son… he hath declared him.”
The word declared means to make known, to explain, to reveal clearly.
Jesus came to make the Father known in a personal and visible way.
2. Jesus Is the Exact Representation of God
The New Testament teaches that Jesus perfectly reflects the nature of God.
📖 Hebrews 1:3
“Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person.”
The phrase express image means an exact imprint or perfect representation.
This means that when people saw Jesus—His compassion, truth, holiness, and authority—they were seeing the character of the Father revealed in human form.
3. Seeing the Son Is Seeing the Father
Jesus spoke directly about this relationship.
📖 John 14:9
“He that hath seen me hath seen the Father.”
Jesus was not claiming to be the Father Himself, but that His life perfectly reveals the Father’s nature.
Everything Jesus said and did revealed what God is like.
4. Jesus Reveals the Father’s Character
Through Jesus’ life and ministry, we see the heart of the Father.
The Father’s Love
Jesus demonstrated God’s love through His compassion and sacrifice.
📖 John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son.”
The sending of Christ reveals the depth of the Father’s love for humanity.
The Father’s Mercy
Jesus forgave sinners, healed the sick, and welcomed the outcasts.
These actions reveal that the Father is merciful and compassionate.
The Father’s Holiness
Jesus also revealed God’s holiness by confronting sin and calling people to repentance.
God’s love does not ignore sin; it calls people into transformation.
5. Jesus Reveals the Father’s Will
Jesus consistently taught that His mission was to carry out the Father’s will.
📖 John 5:19
“The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do.”
This means that Jesus’ actions perfectly reflected the intentions and purposes of the Father.
6. The Son Reveals the Father Through Redemption
The clearest revelation of the Father’s heart appears in the cross of Christ.
Through Jesus’ sacrifice, we see:
- God’s justice
- God’s mercy
- God’s love
The cross shows that God is both righteous and forgiving.
7. The Father Revealed in the Teachings of Jesus
Many of Jesus’ teachings describe the nature of the Father.
For example, the Parable of the Prodigal Son portrays the Father as loving, forgiving, and eager to restore those who return to Him.
This story reveals that God is not distant or harsh but gracious and welcoming.
8. Knowing the Father Through Christ
Jesus taught that true knowledge of God comes through Him.
📖 Matthew 11:27
“No man knoweth the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.”
Through Christ, believers come into a personal relationship with the Father.
9. The Continuing Revelation Through the Spirit
After Christ’s ascension, the Holy Spirit continues to reveal the Father and the Son to believers.
📖 John 16:13–14
The Spirit guides believers into truth and helps them understand the nature of God.
Through Scripture and the Spirit, believers continue to grow in their knowledge of the Father.
Summary
The Father is fully revealed through Jesus Christ. Jesus came not only to save humanity but also to make God known.
Through Christ we see:
- the love of the Father
- the mercy of the Father
- the holiness of the Father
- the purposes of the Father
