MODULE 5 — THE KINGDOM OF GOD AND THE NEW BIRTH
Theme: Why the Kingdom cannot be entered by religion, morality, or effort — only through spiritual rebirth.
Core Scripture: John 3:1–8
SECTION 1 — WHY JESUS STARTED WITH “BORN AGAIN”
1. Nicodemus: The perfect example of man’s best effort
Nicodemus was not evil.
He was:
- A Pharisee
- A ruler
- A teacher of Israel
- Morally disciplined
- Doctrinally trained
- Religious, committed, respected
Yet Jesus told him:
“Unless a man is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.” — John 3:3
This shows:
- No amount of church attendance
- No amount of Bible knowledge
- No amount of religious activity
- No amount of giving, serving, or discipline
…can make a person enter the Kingdom.
The Kingdom is not earned — it is entered.
Not inherited.
Not achieved.
Not deserved.
Not worked for.
It is received by new birth.
SECTION 2 — WHAT DOES “BORN AGAIN” REALLY MEAN?
Most Christians understand being saved from sin…
…but very few understand being born into a Kingdom.
1. Two births
Jesus reveals two realms:
Natural Birth
“Born of flesh” – physical, earthly, human.
Spiritual Birth
“Born of Spirit” – divine, Kingdom, heavenly.
2. New birth is not behavior modification
It is not:
- trying to be better
- trying to stop sinning
- trying to change yourself
- trying to be spiritual
New birth is a new nature.
It is a supernatural re-creation of the human spirit.
SECTION 3 — WHY NEW BIRTH IS NECESSARY FOR THE KINGDOM
1. The Kingdom is spiritual
Jesus says, “My Kingdom is not of this world.”
Spiritual realms require spiritual identity.
A fish cannot join a flock.
A bird cannot join a school of whales.
A sinner cannot join a spiritual Kingdom.
2. Without new birth, we cannot SEE the Kingdom
John 3:3 — “he cannot see”
Meaning:
- cannot understand
- cannot perceive
- cannot discern
- cannot recognize the Kingdom when it is near
This is why many churchgoers still feel lost spiritually.
They see religion but not the Kingdom.
3. Without new birth, we cannot ENTER the Kingdom
John 3:5 — “he cannot enter”
Meaning:
- cannot access authority
- cannot walk in purpose
- cannot know Kingdom rights
- cannot function in Kingdom power
- cannot live under Kingdom government
Salvation rescues you.
New birth reassigns you.
SECTION 4 — WHAT HAPPENS TO YOU WHEN YOU ARE BORN AGAIN?
1. Your spirit is recreated
Not repaired.
Not improved.
Not restored.
Recreated — brand new.
2 Corinthians 5:17.
2. You receive a new citizenship
Philippians 3:20 — “Our citizenship is in heaven.”
You now belong to a Kingdom.
You have a country in the invisible realm.
3. You receive the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is:
- the seal of your citizenship
- the Governor of the Kingdom
- the One who guides, teaches, convicts, empowers
4. You receive access to Kingdom rights
Healing
Authority
Spiritual gifts
Provision
Purpose
Protection
Identity
All legal rights of Kingdom citizens.
5. You receive Kingdom DNA
Love
Holiness
Spirit-life
Righteousness
Power
Wisdom
You begin to resemble your King.
SECTION 5 — THE NEW BIRTH IS THE GATEWAY TO PURPOSE
You cannot discover your purpose until you enter the Kingdom.
Because:
- Purpose flows from identity
- Identity flows from Kingdom citizenship
- Citizenship comes from new birth
Once you are born again:
- Your calling becomes clearer
- Your gifts activate
- Your spiritual hunger increases
- Your destiny awakens
- Your passion for God intensifies
The Kingdom gives direction.
Religion gives ritual.
Only the Kingdom unlocks purpose.
SECTION 6 — HOW TO BE TRULY BORN AGAIN (Simple, Biblical)
1. Admit your spiritual need
Not “I need to be better,” but:
“I need to be reborn.”
2. Believe Jesus is the King and the Door
John 10:9 — “I am the door.”
The King Himself provides the gateway into His Kingdom.
3. Repent — shift allegiance
Repentance is not crying.
Repentance is not confession.
Repentance is:
Changing kingdoms — renouncing sin’s rule and embracing God’s rule.
4. Receive the Holy Spirit
He is the One who births the new nature inside you.
5. Declare Jesus as Lord
Not just Savior.
Lord = Owner, Master, Ruler, King.
This confession transfers your citizenship.
SECTION 7 — THE KINGDOM DEMANDS TOTAL PURSUIT
Once you experience new birth, God expects:
“Seek FIRST the Kingdom of God…” — Matthew 6:33
First means:
- first in thought
- first in decisions
- first in priorities
- first in plans
- first in dreams
- first in desires
When the Kingdom becomes first, everything else aligns.
You stop chasing blessings.
Blessings start chasing you.
SECTION 8 — MOTIVATIONAL PUSH: WHY YOU SHOULD DESIRE THE KINGDOM ABOVE EVERYTHING
Because in the Kingdom you find:
- Your purpose
- Your identity
- Your power
- Your healing
- Your freedom
- Your divine assignment
- Your eternal destiny
- Your spiritual authority
- Your peace and joy
- Your true spiritual family
- Your reason for being born
The Kingdom is not a doctrine.
It is a destiny.
It is your inheritance.
It is the reason Jesus came.
It is the hope of humanity.
Your life only begins when you enter it.
